Blog Writing Assignment:
Task:
1. Gather academic and other materials which reflect your response to A2 'The Topic': Management is the pursuit of ‘flexibility’
2. You must identify one ‘academic’ article and one ‘industry’ (non-academic) article.
3. Industry articles might include eHotelier, Hotels Magazine (www.hotelsmag.com), and so on
4. Academic articles can be sourced from SCU library
5. The key word here is summary
i. Try and keep your summary posts to 200 word
ii.Brief critical review / summary of your chosenarticle
iii.How does your article relate to the topic, the CVF and T&H
iv.NOTE here: the question will focus your attention on the FLEXIBILITY axis, using the 2 complementary quadrants: Collaborate & Create, and their Competing Values
v. Identify links to your own experiences (work, managers you may know, personal)
vi. Structure is important but clarity and conciseness critical
vii. Include a reference list under your summary.
6. In Week 5 (the first week of the assessment), you are to create a new blog entry within your community
7. Access your community on BB and click on ‘group blog’
8.You can find your group either in the “Groups” list in the left hand menu, or go into the Assessment Details link, then to Assessment 2 and then to your link.
9. You will note an option to ‘create a blog entry’
10. Once clicked, give your blog a title: the name of the article; theme of the article; author(s) name(s)
11. Copy your summary straight into the entry message
12. Click on ‘post entry’
13. The next step is completely up to you…
14. You are encouraged to
i. access all MTL blogs within your community and read their summaries (note, you do not have to read the originating article however often MTLs will, due to relevance to personal situations or to offer appropriate feedback.
ii. provide constructive feedback where relevant and debate when necessary
iii. seek to extend the conversation by offering critical thought
iv.constantly refer to the topic, the text and the T&H industry
v. Draw upon additional literature to support your discussion.
