PART 1- Transferable Skill Set Stories (/10)
Step 1:
Choose two of the following questions and write out a short story answering each question (up to 300 words each). Try to include as much detail as possible, thinking about the specific tasks that you carried out and the skills that you demonstrated in each case. You will use the short stories to identify some of your transferable skills.

1. Describe an experience that makes you feel proud
2. Describe a job (paid or volunteer) that you enjoyed
3. Describe a leisure activity that you enjoy
4. Describe a significant accomplishment in your life
5. Describe an important learning experience in your life (may or may not be related to formal education)

Step 2:
Using the following Transferable Skills key (see below), re-read your short stories and circle/highlight all of the skills that you used as part of the activity/experience in question. Please review the content in Module 3, Week 2 to learn more about the types of activities and skills that are included in each of these groupings.

Step 3: Analyze the outcome of your Stories and write a Reflection (approx. 1000 words) about the experience of story writing and coding your skills.

The Reflection should address the following:

  • Which Transferable Skills Sets appeared most/least frequently in your stories?
  • Which of the Transferable Skills Sets could you improve on?
  • Compare the outcome of your Transferable Skill Sets and with your Identity Map. Provide at least one example of a connection or pattern that you see.

Part 2 – Labour Market Outlook – Comparative Career Research
Positioning yourself strategically for your career path is one tactic to help increase the probability of your success in a future job. This exercise asks you to do research using the Work BC – Explore Career Profiles website to identify some key factors about your future career opportunities. The purpose of this exercise is to conduct research on two different jobs, compare some of their key factors, and then through reflection, demonstrate your introspective learning on how you may think about a pivot in your professional life.

Step 1: Conduct Research
Choose a job that you are interested in pursuing.
Use the template below and research the outlined key factors of that job using the Work BC – Explore Career Profiles.

Step 2: PIVOT
Imagine a scenario where you want/need to pivot in your professional life. This could be a personal or professional decision, but you need to pivot and change jobs soon. Choose another job (it can be related to Job 1 or explore a brand-new field) and repeat Step 1 for the new job.
