For your final project, you will practice the descriptive and inferential statistical analyses you have learned/will learn this semester. You will use the database provided to you to run the analysis. This assignment has two steps: In step one, you will report descriptive statistics of the sample. In step two, you provide the results of your inferential analysis using appropriate statistical tests. These two steps are explained below.

1: Descriptive statistics

In this step, you prepare quantitative summaries of the dataset based on what we have practiced in the lab. First, you need to report:

  • Descriptive statistics for the demographic items in the SPSS file.
  • Visual representations of your analysis using graphs and charts (demographics only).
  • Results of descriptive analysis of the demographic variables in words (explain your findings in one or two paragraphs).
  • Report percentage, average, and/or frequency based on the type of data in a table.

Then, you will report the results of your descriptive analysis of the survey items (variables like attitude, subjective norms, motivation, etc.):

  • Average of the measurement results for each item (mean),
  • Standard deviation, and
  • Reliability test results (Cronbach’s Alpha).
  • Create appropriate tables and report your findings (examples provided on D2L; we also practiced these in the lab).

2: Inferential statistics

For this step:

  • Review the lecture note on ‘research question’ and ‘hypothesis’.
  • Review the variables in the SPSS file and the table of constructs provided.
  • Visit me if you need to learn more about the items and their associations.
  • Define three (3) ‘research questions’ based on the items provided in the database. One research question needs to be differential (compares the mean of two or more groups), and two of them need to be causal (look for causal associations between variables).
  • Write ‘null’ and ‘alternative’ hypotheses for each research question.
  • Test your hypotheses using inferential tests we learned/will learn in the lab.
  • Report your results using tables.
  • Explain your results in words (examples will be provided during the labs).
