The aim of this assessment is for you to demonstrate your understanding of, and ability to identify, travel trends and apply specialised tourism knowledge to select and recommend the most suitable travel product for a customer, as required by tourism professionals. This assessment will provide you with the opportunity to develop your presentation skills and teamwork ability, which is a fundamental component of a successful career in the travel and tourism industry. In addition, you will develop your academic writing skills with an expectation that you will express your responses in a rational and logical manner. 

Instructions: (TTI101FC)
To successfully complete this assessment, your group is required to complete and submit both a 20 min group presentation and a group Case study report of 1600 words based on the customer scenario provided to your group by your facilitator: 

Group Presentation – 20 minutes per group 
Your presentation will be assessed based on the rubric below and must be a minimum of 15 minutes maximum 20 minutes. You need to ensure your group presentation is succinct and impactful. Your group’s aim should be to finish your presentation with your audience excited about how the industry and customers are affected by trends. This presentation will include some or all of the details, which you will include in your case study report and should be prepared as though the scenario provided is real. Remember that your audience are potential travellers and as such, you will need to pitch your presentation accordingly. 

Your group Presentation should include at a minimum the following areas 
a. Introduction to the customer scenario. 
b. Identify the travel trend that is occurring in this scenario and a minimum of two (2) possible recommendations that could meet your customer’s needs. 
c. Choose one of your recommendations and justify why it best suits the customer’s needs, including products and destination. 
d. Outline the key features and benefits of this product and discuss why it is the preferred option for this customer. 
e. Describe relevant key sights or attractions that the customer will visit on this holiday 
f. Identify and explain a trend that the customer would experience with this type of product. 
g. Consider and recommend any additional requirements the customer may need to ensure their travel experience is positive e.g. flights, visas, foreign currency. 
h. Organise a detailed Itinerary - showcasing dates, destination highlights, activities, tours applicable to the customer scenario. 
i. Alternative offering or travel enhancement that may interest the customer.
 
Group Case Study Report  (TTI101FC)

Your group Case Study report requires you to prepare a report based upon the customer scenario allocated to your group and is an extension to your presentation. To successfully complete this task you will need to consider and reflect on the following: 
• Content of the case study – what does the customer really want? 
• Travel products available – what options would suit the customer? 
• Recommended travel solution – why would it suit the customer? 
• Impact of the trend - what if more travel was experienced this way?

 
Specifically, the report needs to address the following: 

a. Outline the travel options you took into consideration for this scenario 
b. How does your understanding of the travel product help you recommend this for your customer scenario? 
c. Describe and explain the trend category that has influenced the customer in the given scenario 
d. Discuss the current & potential future impacts of this trend on the tourism industry How to prepare for this assessment 
1. Review subject content, including all readings and viewings that cover specialised travel and tourism trend categories. 
2. Read the customer scenario allocated to your group and discuss with your peers to ensure full comprehension of the customers travel requirements and trend category. 
3. Research the trend, travel products and destination to best suit the customer’s needs. 
4. The recommendation your group makes should be presented as a professional travel presentation (using PowerPoint) and presented as though you are recommending it to the customer in the scenario. 
5. Based on your scenario, complete the report ensuring equal contribution, i.e. A group of 2 students would contribute approximately 800 words each.

Scenario 1: Phillip & Pearl Watson – 50th Wedding Anniversary Cruise 
Your customers, Phillip (78yrs) and Pearl (72yrs) are celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary, and want to spend some quality time with their family. They have decided to go on a cruise to the South West Pacific for 7-14 nights (flexible March – May next year), with the extended family (details below). Phillip requires wheelchair accessible accommodation. 
Additional travellers include:

Scenario 2: Kim Faros - Gap Year Tour

Kim wants to travel in a group to meet lots of new people, be safe and ensure that she travels responsibly with the environment in mind. Kim wants to see as much as she possibly can on a tight budget in the month that she has. She also wants to see attractions that are new and emerging to make all her friends back home jealous #yolo. Departing in 3-months’ time, Kim is going for a year in total however wanting travel arrangements pre-booked for the first 4 weeks only. Kim is an Australian passport holder. 

Scenario 3: Meagan & Harry Mindsor - Honeymoon 
Your customers Meagan and Harry would like a suggestion for their 4-week honeymoon next year. They are both extremely passionate about giving back to communities and would like to assist in a program where needed in South-East Asia. They are open to the type of assistance and support they want to give but have recently become concerned with the high levels of orphaned children in countries like Cambodia. It is imperative to them that the program you recommend is legitimate and sustainable. 

Scenario 4: Lucy McGuire – Empowerment in India 
Your customer Lucy (58yrs) has always travelled for meaning. She has built schools in Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam; she has taught English to underprivileged children in South America; and she has worked at elephant sanctuaries in Africa. Lucy is a strong woman and believes in leaving the world in a better shape than when you came into it. This is why she has decided that her next adventure should be to help empower women in India. Lucy is open to the ways in which she can help, however as she is highly educated she feels she could be of great assistance within a program. She has 3 months of long service leave and is flexible on travel dates. 

Scenario 5: Jack Venables – Best of both worlds 
Jack (34yrs) is a new customer of yours and has recently accepted a 2-month contract to work in New York. Jack has travelled the world extensively however has never been to New York so wants to experience the city to its fullest potential while he’s there. Jack wants to live like a local, get to know others, connect with similar types of people, share authentic experiences and is looking for your recommendations to help him in any way possible. He will need to depart within the next 3 months, however this is flexible. Jack will require a small workspace within his accommodation as he will not have a permanent office but will need to attend regular meetings each week in the Financial District of Manhattan. He is more than happy to commute for up to 1 hour for these meetings.
