Abstract
This study examined the factors determining the turnover intention among Gen Y in private universities of Malaysia. According to Michael (2018), the turnover rate on Linkedln’s data was consumes 10.9% throughout worldwide. The turnover intention in Malaysia is serious as there are 44% of the individuals see themselves are not going to stay in their current role for more than one year (Michael Page, 2015). Thus, the purpose of this research was to ascertain the relationship between independent factors and turnover intention among Gen Y in the private universities of Malaysia. There are three independent factors included in this study namely, salary, opportunity of promotion and leadership styles. This research is a cross-sectional study using quantitative methods based on descriptive research. Convenience sampling is used for the study. Self-administered questionnaires will be distributed online and an estimation of 400 employees of private universities in Malaysia will be participated in the survey as the sample is 400 employees (Krejcie and Morgan, 1970). The findings indicated that salary, opportunity of promotion and leadership styles have positive relationship with turnover intention. Therefore, based on the findings, this research proposed measures to improve the competitiveness of education industry of Malaysia via appropriate reduced intention programs.
