You are required to perform an assessment of the installed wirings regarding their suitability within the environment and confirm their protection from damages and overhearing based on industry standards. You are also required to ensure that the cable conductor sizes comply with the current-carrying capacity, voltage-drop, and fault-loop impedance limitations based on industry standards. The compliance of protective devices and equipment with industry standards is validated to ensure that they fulfil the coordination criteria for safeguarding against overloads and short circuits. The rating of switchgear and control gear is checked to ensure their suitability and adherence to functional specifications following applicable industry standards.

You will perform the insulation resistance test for the overall system. It includes all the components from the central system (mains), sub-mains, final sub-circuits, three-phased circuits and the power outlets. To perform an insulation resistance test, an insulation resistance tester or a megohmmeter is needed. Before starting the test, it is crucial to ensure that the equipment is de-energised and properly grounded. Next, the equipment to be tested must be disconnected from the circuit and cleaned to remove any dirt or oil that may affect the test results.

The leads of the insulation resistance tester are then connected to the equipment to be tested, and a DC voltage is applied. It is important to wait for the readings to stabilise before recording the insulation resistance reading, which is usually expressed in megaohms (MΩ). The recorded reading is then compared with the manufacturer's specifications or industry standards to determine if the insulation is adequate.

Then, you will inspect the earthing systems and components to ensure they are located correctly and verify the associated conductor selection sizes. You will perform an earth continuity test for the main earthing conductor of the system. It is comprised of the protective earthing and neutral (PEN) conductors and bonds them based on task instructions You will also determine the polity of the active, neutral and earth conductors based on the regulatory requirements.

In compliance with the regulatory requirements, the testing is conducted to verify the accurate connections of active, neutral, and protective earthing conductors, ensuring there are no short circuits between conductors, no transposition of conductors that could lead to the earthing system or exposed conductive parts becoming energised, and no interconnection of conductors between different circuits. Moreover, you are also required to ensure that the verification of the earth fault loop impedance limitations is based on the regulator requirements.

You will also refer to the markings present in the switchboards for accuracy, clarity and compliance with the requirements. You are required to perform tests to confirm that the fault-loop impedance is adequately low and that the RCDs function in compliance with the relevant industry standards.

You are required to ensure that the electrical inspection and testing activities are documented and verified. For the verification, you are required to refer to the provided WHS/OHS safety regulations. All the mandatory tests are required to comply with industry standards.
