5 [4] Fig. 2 shows the approximate equivalent circuit of one phase of a 3 phase 500kVA distribution transformer. If the primary current is measured to be A, determine:
(a) Supply voltage Ep
(b) Load voltage Vs

 

Hint: Reduce the equivalent circuit by referring to the primary.


6 [4] Fig. 3 shows the equivalent circuit of a ‘short’ (15km or less) transmission line.
Given that the current I is 41.66A with a phase angle of 36.87(lagging the load voltage VR, calculate the sending end voltage VS (magnitude and phase angle). Assume VR is the reference phasor.

 

7 [7] A series R-C circuit consists of a resistor with resistance R = 10? and a capacitor with Capacitive Reactance XC = 5?. The series combination is connected to a 230 supply (ES). Using the voltage divider rule determine the voltage drop across the resistance (VR) and capacitance (VC).
