Experiment: Design the electric lock on breadboard using the following equipment:
· 4001 quad NOR gate (Radio Shack catalog # 276-2401)

· Two light-emitting diodes (Radio Shack catalog # 276-026 or equivalent)

· Two 470 Ω resistors
· Pushbutton switch, normally open (Radio Shack catalog # 275-1556)
· Two 6 volt batteries
Task 2

Part A of Given Task
Prepare to diagnose and rectify faults

In the Digital Electronics laboratory using digital gates:
a) Complete the OHS risk document attached and submit it along with the practical report.
b) Using methodical approach, show how you would test and use a Digital Trainer Board for correct functionality.
c) For the purpose of assessing your knowledge of fundamental
characteristics digital electronics circuits is applied to solving system problems, answer the following questions by showing all required steps:
i. For the digital control system as shown in the circuit diagram using digital gates list the digital IC’s required.
ii. Write the Boolean expression for the output of the digital circuit.
iii. Produce a truth table for the circuit as per the theory.
Part B of Given Task
Diagnose and rectify faults:
Practical Task
a) Carry out the OHS procedure required for this task as mentioned above.
b) Build the circuit for the above digital control system on the “Digital Trainer” provided to you in the lab class.
c) Check your circuit for proper operation.
d) Diagnose any faults in the digital control system. If no faults are diagnosed, the instructor will create “unexpected faults” which you are supposed to diagnose.
