Ethics, Sustainability and Culture Assignment Help
Task:
Explore a sustainability challenge and associated UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as part of a complex system. By mapping the ways that various participants and elements in this complex system interconnect and interact you will develop a fuller understanding of your chosen challenge and glean insights about why such challenges are so difficult to address. however, it's about exploring and revealing the complexity of the problem space, not proposing a response or a ‘solution’.
There are 4 parts.
1. Describe your chosen sustainability challenge and outline why it qualifies for this exploration. Choose a sustainability challenge that you feel passionate about and that allows you to explore current societal behaviours or activities that we regard as unsustainable, e.g. the emission of greenhouse gases, the rate of species extinction, food insecurity, air pollution, social inequality and so on. In this part of the assignment you need to show that you understand the different ways in which sustainability can be conceptualized (e.g. a consider biophysical, social, political, economic, technological and legal elements) - draw on subject material and class activities to do this.
2. Visualise and describe the complex system in which your challenge occurs. Draw on your research to visualise the system using a system map or another method of your choice. (visualisation, equivalent of max 300 words)
3. Identify sources and features of complexity associated with your sustainability challenge. Highlight and explain the interactions and processes that make the system complex drawing on complexity language and approaches you have built up through the subject. Curate your insights around the key themes or characteristics of complex systems that have emerged through your research and class discussions.
4. Explain insights that could be gleaned from this complexity mapping exercise. What have you learnt or noticed through this exercise? Are there particular nodes / attractors around which issues or activities are centred? Are there any areas or connections that do not receive enough attention?
5. Does your visualisation generate any new insights about what makes this sustainability challenge difficult to address? Relate this discussion to the ways sustainability is thought about in your discipline (e.g. extend, critique or synthesise your insights about disciplinary approaches to sustainability).
