A number of prominent advocates have attempted to raise awareness of the plight of migrants and refugees in Australia, highlighting the price may have to pay for their perseverance in searching for a new home in which can live safely, with their families. These advocates note that many leave war-torn homelands looking for a better future for themselves and their families ? they are forced to leave their homes for many reasons, including these: murderous regimes, unstable governments, natural disasters, conflicts and wars, political oppression, famine, terrorism, and poverty. 

They point out that some estimates tell us that there are over sixty million violently or involuntarily displaced people, throughout the world. They emphasize the importance of an action plan and an action day They also note how much can be done at grassroots levels by individuals, groups, and organizations for example, by providing aid, assistance with resettlement, education, health care, legal aid, and so on. 

They note the major importance of welcoming and helping those who are in need of assistance from Australians, and indeed from Australia; the importance of a space where these people can live safely and securely, without the threat of violence, oppression, persecution, estrangement or alienation. They call on all Australians to hear the cry of the traumatized and the helpless among these migrant and refugee populations and to respond in humanitarian and compassionate ways.
