Section I

Begin with the following thesis statement: “In this paper, I will examine one (or two) of my ethical commitments, investigate its relationship to the families of moral values, and describe how the families might apply to my commitments as a whole.” Then, describe your ethical commitment(s) or value(s). How did you come to hold them? Are there identifiable persons from whom one first learned the commitment or value?  Is there an identifiable moment at which one first came to REALLY see the importance of the commitment or value?  How did it happen?

Reflect upon the four families of moral values. In which of the families does your ethical commitment(s) or value(s) best fit? Describe the family you chose – its central features and claims. Explain why your commitment(s) or value(s) belong in the family you chose.
