Question 2: Politeness This assignment is designed to test your understanding of Politeness theory and its application in the analysis of real-life situations. The theory of Politeness is associated with Brown and Levinson (1987; 2006). Other linguists such as Leech (1983) and Yule (1996) have also discussed politeness in conversations. Find and listen to a short section from a TV chat show. Transcribe the section and include the transcription as an appendix to your final submission. Identify and discuss the politeness and impoliteness strategies employed by the host(s) and guest(s) during the conversation. With these strategies, include any other reactions you may observe. What do your findings/observations suggest about the relationship between the host(s) and guest(s), and about the broader aims of the show?
