Management Assessment Task

Task
This assessment will enable you to evaluate and reflect on five topics studied during the session. Each topic question will give you the opportunity to critically apply your knowledge and learning from this subject to a real-life situation.
Choose five out of six questions to answer.
Since each question asks you to share an example of a change project, you can tackle your five selected questions in one of two ways:
Option 1: At the beginning of answering the questions, set up the change project scenario so that you don’t have to repeat the same organisation/business situation in each answer thus saving words. Then link each subsequent answer to the organisation/business situation you described in the beginning. This option will only be viable if you are giving all the examples from one change project.
Option 2: For each answer, include the organisation/business situation you are relating that answer to i.e. describe the change project that you have been involved with along with your analysis for each answer. This option will be suitable if you will be referring to multiple change projects.

Topic 5 – It is important to engage with stakeholders in change work. Give an example of a change project that you have been involved with. Draw a stakeholder map using the two-dimensional framework described in chapter 7 of your textbook. See below..
Chapter 7 - Once the stakeholders have been identified, the next task is to map where they sit with regard to your organisation. This is done by considering their position on two axes (Ackermann, Eden & Brown, 2005 ; Eden; Ackermann, 1998 ). The first axis is the degree of interest the stakeholder is judged to have in the change issue. At a simple level, interest can be positive or negative towards the change. The second axis relates to the level of influence that the stakeholder could have over the progress of the change. Some stakeholders might have a great deal of influence and be able either to accelerate or to prevent the change, whilst others might have little power to alter the way that things will develop.

What were the consequences of these positions for the outcomes of the change project? Did the project fail to analyse the key stakeholder positions? If yes, analyse what could have been done differently? If not, justify the choices.

Topic 6 – Communication is a key process and a core skill in the management of change.
Give an example of a change project that you have been part of. Was the change planned or unplanned? Critically analyse the behavioural style used by a change leader. Was this style appropriate for the context? If appropriate, justify the behaviour. If not appropriate, suggest how it could have been improved.
Topic 7 – Give an example of an organisational change that you have experienced perhaps as a manager of change or an employee working with a change or a business owner. Describe the model of change that was used. Critically analyse the key elements that you observed. Which elements did not work out as expected? What recommendations would you suggest for a similar future change?
Topic 8 – From a real-world (organisation) setting (could be where you work or worked, your own business, or the industry in general), critically analyse and evaluate an appreciative inquiry approach that you have experienced.
Topic 9 – Reflect on your own understanding of the nature of resistance, based on Topic 9.

Think about what you have come to understand to be the meaning of resistance to change what is it like? What insights on managing resistance would you add, from your own experience of change? Discuss and analyse with the help of a problem that you have encountered in your organisation/industry/business.
Topic 9 –Discuss and analyse the role of ethical behaviour in a change management project that you have been involved with in your organisation/industry/business. Evaluate how ethics were compromised in the change project. What could have been done to prevent this from happening?
