You have been hired as an assistant project manager of a well-recognised organisation in UAE. Your employer has been engaged in so many plans to transform your organization due to worldwide increasingly embraced of the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as a mean of develop and adopt sustainable practice and approaches in their business operations. It is a multifaceted concept that encompasses many different aspects ranging from generosity, ethical responsibilities and environmental considerations. Most recently, in response to maximising stakeholder value and expectations, the strategic benefits of CSR has seen many companies having a competitive advantage. Together with the rise of globalisation, companies now employ CSR managers, experts and consultants to produce comprehensive CSR policies and programmes, to give them a competitive edge and build stakeholder trust and loyalty.

Your employer has asked you to examine the multi dimensions of CSR within the context of business operations applied to a small scale project and to contextualise the principles of CSR and explore the merits of CSR in relation to meeting competitive and sustainable organisational objectives.

Being a project manager, you will develop a project plan and complete your research on “What are the key considerations for CSR” together with investigation on the importance of project management and key stages involved in it, you would also focus on selecting appropriate methods of information gathering, data collection and material resourcing. This would further lead you to present the project and communicate appropriate recommendations based on meaningful conclusions drawn from the evidence findings.

Given the scenario above, you are required to do the following:      

1. Explain the stages of the Project Life Cycle and their importance to the success of a project and then examine the factors to be considered when compiling a project management plan PMP and then examine as well the range of research strategies and what their importance is to project management?

2. Make an evaluation of the stages of the PLC and the factors to be considered as well as the range of research methods and strategies for gathering information and data collection. Then make a critical evaluation of the project management process ,PMP and research methods using a company of your choice

3. Produce a PMP that covers the following:

  • Aims
  • Objectives
  • Deliverables
  • Quality
  • Risk
  • Communication resources
  • Research methods

4. Produce a work breakdown structure and a time schedule to provide frameworks and stages for completion. This should be a detailed PMP and schedule for monitoring and completing the aims and objectives of the project and then justify the choices you made in the design of the PMP for completing the aims and objectives of the project

5. Conduct a business project as stated within the PMO and communicate the findings, then present data to draw solid and meaningful conclusions. You also need to justify your conclusions and recommendations drawn from data analysis and findings to meet the stated objectives

6. Then, reflect on the value of undertaking the business project to meet stated objectives and your own learning and performance.  You are then required to critically evaluate the project management process to meet stated objectives and support it with your own learning and performance.
