PROJECT DEFINITION
You are working for a perfume manufacturing company as a product designer. For the next line of perfume, you are tasked with designing an aesthetically attractive bottle within the following design specifications.
Using Creo Parametric CAD SW model the inside space of a bottle, with 550 ml of a liquid filling a total height of 200 mm, with a rectangular base of 50 x 30 mm inside the bottle, the corners of the rectangle have rounds of R5 mm. Design the cross-section of the bottle, which is variable, while the top gradually reduces to the neck. The neck for attaching the spray assembly is 15 mm inner diameter.
Design the shape of the surface of the bottle to be smooth (rounded where ever the geometry changes for die production and stress distribution with a minimum radius of 10 mm). Use an automated design study to find the value of two or more variable dimensions which gives the required volume of liquid. Design the bottle such that when it is filled with perfume liquid it leaves a 15 mm clearance from the top of the bottle. The neck ID=15 mm and OD is ID+2*thickness of wall+1.5 mm. The neck of the bottle for attaching the spray assembly on the outside is 4 mm long along with the OD. Provide a 1 mm round along all edges of the bottle, where not specified.
The bottle is to be made of Glass, of density 2.5 g/cm^3, Poisson’s ratio 0.22, E = 70 GPa, Tensile strength 160 MPa, Compressive strength 1000 MPa. It is filled with a pressurized gas at 500 kPa. Take atmospheric pressure of 101 kPa. Taking a FOS of minimum 6 find the wall thickness of the glass bottle, take a precision of 0.25 mm for easy inspection. Make the final drawings for production.
The submission is to be in a soft-copy form in a PDF file titled Project2_Bottle.pdf. The pdf should be briefing the initial design, steps of design and the final design and conclusions so that at a quick glance the reader is aided by pics/images and their interpretations/descriptions to arrive at an understanding of the project. No animations required.
Reflect on the project and write a one page note (max) for the industry justifying your design and method of design. Production drawings saved from .drw files to be submitted in the end of Project2_Bottle.pdf. Submit all files of Creo in a zipped folder named _Project2 after deleting old versions, and temp folders made by analysis.
