1. Compare, using subtraction and division, the amount of flour used in two recipes, if Recipe 1 used 1 1 /2 cups and Recipe 2 used 2 1 /3 cups. Calculate your answers using fractions and then write your answers as sentences. (4 marks)

2. A house plan shows a scale of 1:40. If the rectangular lounge room of the house is to measure 4.2 metres by 6.2 metres, what will the area of the lounge room be on the plan in square centimetres? (3 marks)

3. Between Brisbane and Toowoomba workers are repairing a section of road 7.5 kilometres in length. The speed limit on this section of the road is usually 100 km/h. Due to the roadwork, the speed has been reduced to 60 km/h. How many minutes will the roadwork add to the journey? (5 marks)

4. The total value of Australian agricultural exports during the period 2004 – 2005 was $26 343 030 000. Of this amount, exports to Asian countries had a value of $11 123 571 000. a. What was the value of agricultural exports to non-Asian countries during this period? b. What percentage of the total value of agricultural exports was derived from trade with Asian countries? c. Japan was our largest market, accounting for 18.5% of the total value of all Australian agricultural exports. What percentage of the total value derived from our Asian markets did Japan provide? (5 marks)

5. A vitamin manufacturing company has purchased 12 kg of ascorbic acid powder, which it intends to use for vitamin C tablets. If each tablet is to contain 500 mg of ascorbic acid, how many tablets should the manufacturer be able to produce from the original 12 kg?

6. Simplify the following, expressing your answers in index form.

9. You have just received this set of figures from the local environmental agency and are required to write part of an article for the local newspaper. 

a. Use a pie chart to display the above information pictorially. Show working for calculation of angles. s

b. It is estimated that Greenhouse gas emissions worldwide are increasing by 1.9% every year. Based on this estimate, what was the total mass of Greenhouse gases emitted by the United States in 2002?

c. Write a paragraph to accompany the pie chart and the information presented in part b. In this paragraph you should interpret these figures for the general public.

10. Evaluate the following on your calculator. Round your answers to two decimal places if necessary.
