Assignment Task

Objective:

• To understand the role of information coordination in decision making
• Understand use of enterprise data for decision making

Install Tableau and connect it to the SAP server using instructions provided in the document “Tableau”. You will have to connect to different views in SAP and use these as data sources for plots in Tableau.

You will have to use the following views for your assignment:

PART A: Analytics

Your task is to use the enterprise data and show how data visualization can be used for decision making. You will explore this using Tableau and generate following insights:

• Pricing decision relies on the price sensitivity of products i.e. how sensitive is the demand for a product to its prices. Use the data in detailed sales report to determine how sensitive is demand to price for different products? Is this different for different regions? Please plot demand vs. price using Tableau. and use it for your analysis. You should use trend lines in Tableau analytics to determine the price sensitivity. (You can use the following link to figure out how to plot using Tableau.

Combine data from marketing expenses and sales to determine whether marketing helped the sales of your products.

It is ok if you are not able to do a join for the marketing expense and sales. You can have separate plots and use these to compare the effect of marketing on sales.

For part B, please focus on the interaction between team members and the need for coordination for different decisions. It is not about how ERP is coordinating different steps.

• You need to investigate how well demand was coordinated with supply. Use the inventory view to determine how often there are no inventory available for different products.
• Using the available data, determine the profitability (sales – cost) for different products? Find the most profitable product

PART B:  Process Design

Simulation involved decision making such as pricing, marketing, production and purchase. There is a need to coordinate these decisions and exchange relevant information. However, this is not available in the current ERP setup used for the simulation. You are required to come up with a technology solution to address this. Important prerequisite is your ability to design appropriate business processes and the related information flow so that it can be codified in any solution you develop. Based on your interactions with your team in the simulation game, conceptualize a possible business process and related information flow. Use a flow diagram to represent steps (SEE ERP Process Document for procurement and fulfillment ERP procesess to get ideas on depicting this process and information flow)
