This assessment requires you to apply your knowledge and skills to prepare a relevant cost estimate for typical items of construction work based on the information available; calculate the applicable labour rates for use within this project estimate, including the impact of typical on-costs; identify and secure the information needed to calculate an estimate of labour, materials, subcontractor and plant costs, using relevant methods as required; calculate a 1st principal construction estimate for various components of work using both a manual and software-based methodology; appraise the worth of offers made by sub-contractors and suppliers; prepare a cost estimate of the activities needed beyond the physical work; and determine a strategy for including profit and overhead allowances to determine an appropriate sales price. What you will do You are the Estimator for a medium size development company. Your company has decided to tender on the construction of a new development of 70 townhouses, on a section of land in Brisbane.
The initial Site Plan with land topology and basic outline of a typical two storey townhouse design has been provided. However, the structural/civil engineer has determined that changing the design from a two storey to a single storey will obviate the need of piers & suspended slabs, allowing for a normal footing/slab and therefore reducing the cost of each dwelling. Consequently, the client has just decided that 70 low-set houses will now be constructed as per the drawings provided. Therefore, you as the estimator have been tasked with providing a detailed and accurate estimate to construct this project, including calculating the offsite overhead based on corporate information yet to be provided, and your calculation of the total expected profit ($) assuming a minimum profit of 17.5% is required.
