Mary Case Study
During client placement, I worked with an old lady called Mary (Not a real name) who was in her late sixties she had multiple sclerosis. Mary lives with her husband and children, but Mary's husband used to go to work every morning. Mary was a lovely woman, someone who loved fashion, she got a lot of clothes shoes and liked to wear clothes that match. On a fateful day, I was left alone with Mary to assist her with personal hygiene, and she started talking to herself and crying at the same time. I asked her what was wrong with her, and then Mary started talking to me with tears in her eyes. Mary said her daughter used to abuse her verbally and emotionally. I wanted to report the issue, but Mary told me to reassure her that I would not disclose our conversion to anyone, even our manager. I replied to Mary that I needed more detail on how her daughter was abusing her. It is a big responsibility for a healthcare worker to report any form of abuse and the first thing I said to her was that we all work as a team here. we are here to help you, so I cannot keep secrets from the team, but we promise to keep information secret within the team if Mary wants us to.
Abuse is illegal, and sometimes even if someone asks us not to tell, we do have a responsibility to report abuse, particularly serious abuse.
