Instructions: 
Answer the 12 questions below to analyse an informative, factual, DIGITAL text that discusses a person, issue place or event that has personal relevance to you, such as a 
• Feature article
• Blog post/s
• Website / page

Please use full sentences to answer all questions and refer to the ‘Reading Assessment Guide – How to Answer the Questions’ to help you.

1. State the title of the text.

2. Where did you find the text?  You MUST include a linkor copy of your text.

3. Who is the author?  What can you tell about the author’s experience, expertise, values,or culture from this text? 

You must explain at least TWO points in your answer: 

a. Author’s experience- In the text, what can you tell about the author’s experiences in life?
b. Author’s expertise- In the text, what can you tell about the author’s expertise or career? 
c. Author’s values- From the text, what do you think the author finds important in life?
d. Author’s culture- In the text, what can you tell about the author’s cultural background?

4. Why is this text relevant to you?Describe its relevance to you personally, to your learning and/or in terms of any communities you belong to or identify with.

5. What type of text is it?See page7 in Assessment Guide.

6. What is the purpose of the text?

7. Who is the audience?  How is this text suited to its intended audience?

8. What is the text about?

a. You MUST provide a summary of the whole text using your own words. 
b. Explain the information that the article focuses on at the beginning,middle and end. 
c. You should have at least three paragraphs.   

9. Identify THREE VISUAL / AUDIO featuresthat the author used.Check page 9 in Assessment Guide.
Your answer MUST follow this structure:

1. Identify feature:e.g. Sub-headings
2. Provide example of the feature from the text:e.g.“The main suspects in the case”
3. Look back to the purpose (Q6) and target audience (Q7) and explain why you think the feature was used:e.g. I think the author used sub-headings to break down the information in the article and make the article easier to read, particularly for younger audiences, who may want to read the article quickly. 

10. Identify THREE LANGUAGE featuresthat the author used.Check page 10 in Assessment Guide.

Your answer MUST follow this structure:

1. Identify feature:e.g.The author used emotive language.
2. Provide example of the feature from the text:e.g.“The suspect cried desperately in court”
3. Look back to the purpose (Q6) and target audience (Q7) and explain why you think the feature was used:e.g. I think the author used emotive language to inform the audience how the accused reacted to the hearing and to encourage the reader to feel sorry for the suspect in the case.

11. How effective is the text?  Was the author successful in achieving the purpose of the text?  Explain.

12. If this is a digital text, how valid do you think the text is?  Explain.
