INSTRUCTIONS
A template Eclipse project has been provided to you on iLearn. The project is stored within WCOM1010_AssignmentThree.zip which can be downloaded from the Assessments tab under Assignment 1. Extract the project and import it into Eclipse. You are required to edit the Apple.java, Game.java, Snake.java and Client.java files. A breakdown of the tasks within each file is given in the marking criteria at the end of this document.
To test your work open and run the Client.java file. This will open a window where you will be able to test the functionality of the game.
More specific details on what to do can be found below and within the the Apple.java, Game.java and Snake.java files.
NATURE OF THE TASK
This is an individual task. You can work with other students if you like, but each student must write their solutions independently. Plagiarism is strictly prohibited.
MATERIALS REQUIRED / SUGGESTED RESOURCES
There are no materials required to complete this assignment. It is highly recommended however that you consult your notes from lessons 1.1 to 5.6
HOW TO PRESENT YOUR ASSIGNMENT
Complete all the methods in the files Apple.java, Game.java and Snake.java, following the associated instructions. Your solutions must be written inside of the Apple.java, Game.java, Snake.java and Client.java files. You must write your code in a clear and concise manner. You must also properly indent your code and use appropriate variable names. Finally, you must write comments throughout your code to describe its purpose.
SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS
Upload Apple.java, Game.java, Snake.java and Client.java to iLearn using the submission box under Assignment 3 in the Assessments section.
We will deploy plagiarism detection tools and ANY submission flagged for plagiarism will be reported to the university.
LATE SUBMISSIONS
Late submissions are possible and will be penalised at 20% per day up to 4 days (weekend inclusive). If a student submits an assessment task 5 or more days a after the due date without grounds for special consideration (See Disruptions to Studies Policy) a record or submission will be made but the student will receive zero marks for the assessment task.
RETENTION OF RECORDS
Student are required to keep a copy of all items submitted or completed for the purpose of assessment or evaluation until the end of the grade appeal period.
INFORMATION ABOUT HOW AND WHEN FEEDBACK WILL BE PROVIDED
Feedback will be provided within one week of the due date via iLearn. Please note that you will be able to roughly determine your grade by running Client.java to test if your solutions satisfy the requirements.
ACADEMIC HONESTY
Using the work or ideas of another person, whether intentionally or not, and presenting them as your own without clear acknowledgement of the source is called Plagiarism.
Macquarie University promotes awareness of information ethics through its Academic Honesty Policy. This means that:
• All academic work claimed as original must be the work of the person making the claim

You are required to complete the below methods within Game.java. There are more detailed instructions on the requirements of each method within the Game.java file.

Extra Features
Blue Apples (5 marks)
Add Blue apples into the game which cause the snake to grow by 10 Body objects when eaten. Note that this will involve editing the Client.java file as well as the Apple.java file.
To add in Blue apples, lower the chance of an effect = 1 Apple occuring to 40% so that the chance of a Blue apple occuring is 10%.
Difficulty Levels (5 marks)
Add three buttons to the title screen (page = 0) that allow you to select a diffculty (Easy, Medium, Hard). Easy mode should correspond to the current setting, Medium should consist of a snake which is two times faster and Hard to a snake which is three times faster.
Note that this will primarily involve editing the Client.java file.
Hint: look at how the buttons on the Leaderboard page have been implemented.
Penalties
The following grades will be deducted from your over all grade.
5 marks: If your variable names are not descriptive of their use.
5 marks: If you have not included comments throughout your code.
5 marks: If your code is not properly indented.
5 marks: If your code is unnecessarily long or the logic you used is unnecessarily complicated.
