Background
The Internet of Things (IoT) is a new paradigm in which machines and devices are collaborating with each other to drive innovation. Although the IoT has been a blessing for many organizations, the increase in the frequency of cybersecurity attacks is a cause of concern for many people. Currently, many IoT devices such as patient monitoring systems, logistics, smart grids and environmental monitoring have come up. After the report by Symantec (2020), the IoT devices attack rate was around 5200 attacks per month which clearly represent that around 97% increment has been seen. Most of the attacks, around 78% are being performed through the application of IoT malware attacks and password attacks. The positive trend is that there is an increase in the worldwide IoT security market and IoT security regulation (Lee, 2020). This is reflective of the increase in IoT resilience. However, the gap is that there is little understanding of the benefits of cyber resilience from the perspective of organization managers. Hence, there is a need for new research to further explore the risk and benefits of tools of cyber resilience in the organization.
Problem Statement
The primary concern or problem statement is the increase in cyber attacks and data breaches every year. As per the overall report of Palo Alto, (2021), around 83% of healthcare organizations faced different types of IoT attack issues. These issues cannot only damage the reputation of the business as well as contribute to distrust among consumers.
Significance of the Study
The significance of the study is that it will reduce the gap associated with the concept and decrease the controversy related to the adaptation of cybersecurity management. Many organizations lack access to a clear an aligned cyber resilience strategy. They cannot effectively implement plans related to cybersecurity incident. The advantage of research in the area of understanding risk and benefits associated with cybersecurity is that it is likely to promote interest in cyber risk management and compliance (Radziwill& Benton, 2017). The finding is likely to provide better clarity to all stakeholders and increase their interest in managing cybersecurity risk.
It will lead to implementation of process to evaluate current cybersecurity, determine ways to reduce risk and manage exposure to risk in the future (Raghavan et al., 2017).
Purpose of the study
The purpose of the study is to explore the perspective or opinion of managers regarding the risk or benefit of cybersecurity for business organizations. This will be explored using qualitative research design and the study will be conducted with managers from diverse types of organization in different research settings.
Research Questions
What is the importance of cybersecurity on IoT devices with the help of cyber resilience?
How does the cyber criminal affect the overall functional IoT devices in a particular organization?
What are the primary steps of cyber resilience to mitigate cybersecurity issues?
Assumptions
The assumptions in a particular research are majorly assumed as primary statements which the researchers make about maintaining their characteristics in a particular study. It also helps to maintain the research participants and to assume the contest of the study. The proper type of collecting the major data and the analytical methods will be also assumed by the researcher before starting their work based on the cybersecurity factors. As per the assumption about the population, the managers of different organizations will be contacted to get better results. Similarly, about the variables, different findings based on cyber attacks, cybersecurity, resilience and IoT devices will be incorporated in this research.
Definition of terms
Internet of things
This technology is majorly known as the network of different physical devices or appliances and is embedded with software, sensors, and connectivity for the data exchange of the internet.
Cybersecurity
This technology is known as the practice of protecting digital systems from different types of unauthorized access, disruption or damage.
Cyber resilience
It provides the ability to the organization to respond and withstand different cyber attacks along with security incidents.
Cyber attacks
Different types of malicious activities which aimed to damage, compromise and theft the network computers and other digital systems.
Potential impact of research
This research is very much focused on providing the idea about the essentiality of cybersecurity on the IoT devices. It can offer the organiational managers for getting better results in a particular area. It can also offer an opportunity to increase stability in the organization equipment.This research helps to provide a better support on increasing the cyber resilience.
