General Information

This document provides an overview of the Capstone Project (‘Capstone’) which is an essential part of your GISB Post-Graduate Program in Sports Management. The Capstone serves as the culmination of the Academic phase of the program and provides you with an opportunity to build a consolidated ‘real-life’ project through the application of your classroom learning, industry interactions and external research.

Your Capstone should be the result of work that is independently conducted by you, and that represents original research, strategic thinking and application. At a minimum, the work should demonstrate your comprehensive understanding of the following:

  • Present state and future trends of the Indian sports landscape
  • Indian professional league ownership models and commercial structures
  • Short-term and long-term strategic planning for a sports organisation
  • Professional sports franchise operations and commercial opportunities 

Capstone Deliverable

For the Capstone, you will establish a new professional sports franchise within a specified budget that will compete in one of the following Indian sports leagues:

  • Indian Premier League (IPL)
  • Indian Super League (ISL)
  • Pro Kabaddi League (PKL

The final deliverable will be a Strategy Report as well as a 5-year Business Plan for your newly created franchise which will be delivered to GISB management in December 2022. The Capstone accounts for 15% of your overall grade for the post-graduate program in sports management and the final deliverable will include, at a minimum, the following related to your franchise:

Core reasoning behind establishing your franchise (What is your why?)

  • Vision, mission, objectives
  • Brand identity
  • Legal structure
  • Market research methodology & results
  • 5-year strategic budget (P&L)
  • 5-year Plan which Includes:
    • Club structure (Organizational)
    • Team composition & Structuring
    • Marketing plan (360 Degree)
    • Technical expertise o Infrastructure & facilities o Youth development
    • Corporate social responsibility
  • Any revenue streams outside of core business (i.e., agency)
  • Comparison with Franchise in a Developed Sporting Landscape
