In order to survive and stay ahead in today’s competitive world, companies are pushed to their limits in search for organizational skills and technologies. Of these, Supply chain Management and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) are the two most primarily used terms. In order to stay and survive in today’s cut throat competition, companies are forced to speed up their production, reduce their cost and improve performance. Supply Chain Management is the term used for managing this accurate information input and output and ERP is the technology used for achieving the same. With the advent of globalization, efficient supply chain management has emerged as a major area of interest for every business organization. I gained a considerate knowledge about this field through my graduation and professional pursuits and now I wish to expand my knowledge and skills about this vast domain as I aim to build a promising career in this realm. Moreover, I believe that a formal extensive education is needed to achieve this and hence, I, Gourish Kalra, have applied to the Graduate certificate program in Supply Chain Management-Logistics (Co-Op) course from Fanshawe College, Canada.
ACADEMIC BACKGROUND
Mentioning about my academics, I completed my secondary school education from Children’s Academy Sr. Sec. School, Ghaziabad affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in the year 2012, with a CGPA of 7.8 and my senior secondary education from Vivekanand School, Delhi (affiliated to CBSE) in the year 2014 with the Commerce stream. My majors in class 12th included subjects such as Economics, Business Studies and Accountancy which provided me with the basic knowledge of the business domain and motivated me to gain in-depth knowledge of the field. My interest towards in business realm was very well reflected in my grades as I scored 76 marks out of 100 in Business studies subject.Owing my interest towards the business realm, I earned my graduate degree in Bachelors of Business Administration from Ideal Institute of Management and Technology (affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University) in the year 2017 with first division. My graduation gave me exposure to varied subjects which provided me considerate knowledge about all the aspects of business. However, the subjects like Production and Operations Management, Quantitative Techniques and Operation Research in Management, and International Business Management were the ones which caught my attention the most. It was here that I came to know that every company requires an effective management to ensure cost reduction and cater to customer’s varied needs that eventually lead towards growth of an organisation and such roles are fulfilled by efficient supply chain managers. In addition to this, one of the incidents which developed my inclination towards the supply chain realm is that my college organized various Industrial Visits to Hero MotoCorp. where I saw how the company procured raw material and managed their inventory to manufacture a motorcycle to keep their production line running continuously, these processes intrigued me and inclined my interest to learn more about Supply.
INTERNSHIP:
I had my first practical experience during graduation at M/s Shriram Pistons & Rings Ltd. which is an internationally acclaimed manufacturing firm based out in Ghaziabad, India. Here I worked as an intern on the project titled Process of Supply Chain Logistics from May 2016-June 2016. Here I assisted the team in responsibilities like creating the company’s supply chain strategy; analyzing data from shipping and delivering processes; managing and delivering large and complex ERP engagements; assisting the supply chain manager in developing ERP methodologies and practice solutions; etc. The exposure gained here intrigued me to gain in-depth knowledge of this vast sector.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Later on, after completing my graduation, in Jan 2018 I joined Brite Engineering & Scientific Technology firm as a trainee and after successfully completing the probation period of two months in Mar 2021, I got appointed as a Purchasing Coordinator. Here I have handled responsibilities such as Developing and implementing purchasing strategies; Managing daily purchasing activities, supervising staff, and allocating tasks; Managing supplier relations and negotiating contracts, prices, timelines, etc.; Maintaining the supplier database, purchase records, and related documentation; Coordinating with inventory control to determine and manage inventory needs. Later on, considering my excellent performance and diligence, in April 2020, I got promoted as Purchasing Executive and currently my handling job responsibilities such as Managing daily purchasing activities, supervising staff, and allocating tasks; Managing supplier relations and negotiating contracts, prices, timelines, etc.; Maintaining the supplier database, purchase records, and related documentation; Ensuring that all procured items meet the required quality standards and specifications; providing report about the day-to-day retail and store operations to the purchasing manager, assisting in analyzing cost changes, reviewing technical specifications for raw materials, and many more.After having gained a good experience of the supply chain management sector through my previous pursuits, I am determine that my interest and passion lies in supply chain management and logistics area. As is true for any career, it is crucial for me to gain an advance global knowledge of this subject in order to build a beaming career in this highly competitive field. Hence, I decided to pursue the Supply Chain Management – Logistics program from the esteemed Fanshawe College, Canada.
