The local government area of Wollongong has a strategic interest in meeting the needs of those ageing. As such, even those 55 years and above need to be considered as part of a pre-emptive strategy. As part of your role as a health promotion practitioner, you have been recruited to conduct a needs assessment of those aged 55 and above.
In doing so, you need to review policies / plans / assessments done to-date by Wollongong City Council to identify gaps, if any. In doing so, you will need to gain an understanding of the Wollongong community and those aged 55 and above living in the same community
i) Discuss the types of community characteristics you need to consider to gain an understanding of the Wollongong Local Government area and those aged 55 years and above.
ii) Identify one primary and one secondary data source which will assist you to understand this community. Explain how these sources will help to increase your knowledge of this community (ensure you reference these sources)
iii) Find two journal current articles (no older than 2009) where the authors have tried to understand the needs of those 55 years and above. Discuss the methods used in these articles which could be adopted to provide you with a better understanding of the ageing population.
