Work experience reflection reports
Student Name: Student No:Placement Organisation:
This report requires you to reflect on the learning outcomes of your placement, the projects you have worked on and the areas of strengths and weaknesses that you have self-identified as a result. This report is worth 30 marks towards your overall unit score, with marks being awarded based on the quality of your WIL placement reflections against the rubric contained in the Assessments / My Grades section of Blackboard.
In the Weekly Journals, you were asked to detail your performance development over the period of your WIL placement. This final assessment requires you to provide a deeper and more personal reflection of your WIL placement experience aligned to YOUR courses’ learning outcomes.
How do I find my Course Leaning Outcomes?
Go the ECU Handbook using this link (it has all School of Science courses): https://www.ecu.edu.au/handbook/Go through the list of courses until you find YOUR course, then click on it
Scroll down through all of the course information until you come to the heading Course Learning Outcomes. Below is an example from the U65 Bachelor of Computer Science
Course Learning Outcomes listed for your particular course.
Pick any 4 of your courses’ learning outcomes that you feel are most aligned to your placement experience
The next page outlines the four sections of your reflection report that you must write about.
Course Learning Outcomes: Having located the Course Learning Outcomes for your course, reflect on the activities you undertook in your WIL placement and how you believe those activities align to your selected learning outcomes.
Here is an example from a previous semester of how a student wrote about one of his selected course learning outcomes (this is an example only, not to be copied)
Challenges: Reflect on the challenges (if any) you encountered during your WIL placement (social, technical, communication, writing, presenting in public etc etc) and how you went about resolving them?
Current Strengths and Weaknesses: As a result of your placement, reflect on your current strengths and weakness (ie those things you feel you are good at and those things you might need to work on and how the placement has helped with identifying and addressing them).
Professional Practice and/or the ability to Demonstrate Discipline Knowledge? Reflect on the contribution that you believe the WIL placement has made to your ability to work as a professional and/or demonstrate your discipline knowledge in a professional workplace.
The key to a good reflection report is not to be too repetitive, nor too overly technical. Make sure your document is structured clearly around the requirements listed above, that it has no typos and no grammar issues.
