You work for a local disability service. Some of your clients who have various physical disabilities (sight impaired, hearing impaired and wheelchair bound) have raised the issue of access to some buildings/services in your town. You decide to investigate their complaints and carry out an access assessment of the building/services to identify the main issues for your clients. Choose ONE public building/service in your town e.g. Centrelink offices, health centre, library, school. Print out the access assessment checklist provided in your resources folder, and complete the form as you proceed through the building, assessing disability access, and noting any issues that arise. Upon completion of the assessment checklist (hopefully you find at least one or two issues to address) and after consultation with your clients to ensure the issues identified are relevant to their needs, you decide that it is your responsibility to try and resolve the main issue(s) you have identified. If you have identified numerous issues, choose one that you think may apply to most of your clients. Write up a 200 word (approx.) cover letter introducing yourself to the building owner and raising the issues and requesting the owner address the issue of access for people with disabilities.  Provide an 800 word (approx.) report outlining reasoning, relevant legislation, issues and resources available for addressing access. Your report should contain reference to the following:   Issues of exclusion/discrimination as they relate to access for people with disabilities Identification of access barriers for people with disabilities identified in the audit for the building under question Reference to UNCRPD, National Disability Strategy, NDIS and Australian Disability Discrimination legislation and the relevance of these to the issue of access; Some discussion of the social benefits of addressing barriers to the access of people with disabilities; Reference to material that would be useful for the building owner to address issues of access Recommendations
