Midgley, L., 2019. Assessing school readiness to implement substance misuse prevention: A mixed-methods, socio-ecological case study in Wales (Doctoral dissertation, Cardiff University). Available on: http://orca.cf.ac.uk/133871/1/Luke_Stephen_Midgley_PhD_2019.pdf
The paper which is written by Luke (2019) focuses on the exploration of implementation and development of substance misuse prevention policies within secondary schools situated in the region of Wales. The methodology of the research is a mixed study design that involves both types of data such as quantitative and qualitative. The main findings of the research suggest that while making such policies in the school, no student was involved in the process in all the schools and with that, pupils were also not aware of the development of substance misuse prevention policies in their campuses. Through the experiment, it was highlighted that most of the students are unaware of the referral pathway. Thus, there is a need for proper guidance and support for young people. This study could be helpful for the research because it emphasizes that proper health promotion is not being done in the schools of the United Kingdoms. There is a lack of accountability around young people which should not be there as psychoactive drugs can be very dangerous for them. Also, if proper health promotion will happen, then this issue will be eliminated.
Fletcher, E.H., Tasker, S.M., Easton, P. and Denvir, L., 2016. Improving the help and support provided to people who take new psychoactive substances (‘legal highs’). Journal of Public Health, 38(4), pp.e489-e495. https://doi.org/10.1093/pubmed/fdv191
The authors of the paper are fletcher et al., (2015), and their work aims to enhance the understanding of new psychoactive substances. In addition to that, they are focusing on identifying issues, needs and concerns of the people who are either affected by these substances via other individuals or are taking them by themselves. Their research is also paying attention to the support and help which is given to the people who are influenced by legal highs. The research method is a mixed method that involves discussion with the local community groups and professionals, online survey and routine data analysis. The main findings of their work are that these harmful substances are very easily available in the market of United Kingdoms. Also, they suggested that there is a need to improve the data collection method, restricted access and raised awareness. The authors have recommended that new psychoactive substance support should be delivered to people properly so that they can remove this habit of theirs. This study is crucial for the research because it makes suggestions about the type of help which should be given to the people so that the problem of the use of legal highs could be resolved.
